João Marcos Rosa is a Brazilian conservation photographer. Graduated in Journalism for the University of Belo Horizonte (UNI-BH), he has specialized in documenting biodiversity and conservation, themes he has captured in some of the South America’s remote places from the Andes to Amazon. 

Working as photographer, writer and editor, he has been involved in many conservation projects, most of them linked with endangered species.

Rosa’s work is published in several magazines such as GEO, Terra Mater, BBC Wildlife among others. Since 2004 he has worked for Brazilian edition of National Geographic, on challenging assignments such as giant otters, harpy eagles, golden lancehead snakes, lear’s macaw, among others. 

He is the author of the books Harpia, Garden of Lear’s Macaw, (Nitro Editions), Journal of an intimate Autumn (Vento Leste), and in addition to the images published in books Facing Extinction (Birdlife/T&AD Poiser), Atlantic Rainforest (MMA), Geography of Hope and Back From the Brink: 25 Conservation Success Stories (CEMEX Nature Series) among others. 

His photographs have been featured in the conservation campaigns of Greenpeace, UNESCO and in the Brazilian environment agencies IBAMA and ICMBIO. 

Trying to reach his goal of disseminating conservation messages, he has exhibited his images for a diverse public in exhibitions in Brazil, Uruguay, Germany and United Kingdom.
