Robert Heil graduated from Yale University in 1965 and from Berkeley Law (Boalt Hall) in 1969. For twenty years, he represented clients in real estate and business matters. He also represented several filmmakers, including George Lucas and Francis Coppola, in connection with their film production (mostly the Star Wars and the Indiana Jones series) and business affairs.

He retired from law in 1989 and has since traveled widely 20 weeks each year, to well over 100 countries. He has also been a serious photographer and has been published in many national publications and won more than 100 photo prizes in national and international photo competitions.

He has also been involved in substantial non-profit work. He was a research diver and photographer for the Hawaii Whale Research Foundation, based in Maui, Hawaii; Chair and Board Member of the national Sierra Club Foundation; and Chair and Board Member of Goodwill Industries based in San Francisco.

He has been taking photographs underwater for almost 50 years and 1900 dives, of the world’s wonderful tropical coral reefs and animals, as well as of the world’s population of whales, manta rays, sharks, and other large marine creatures. His other interests include skiing, hiking, white water rafting, and furniture and cabinet making.

He has published a photo website of wildlife, outdoor, and underwater images, including more than 100 galleries of extraordinary animals, places, and people from all seven continents. Please take a look at www.robertheil.com.
