Doug Gimesy
I am a professional wildlife, conservation and animal welfare photojournalist, with a focus on Australian issues. My clients include National Geographic, BBC Wildlife, bioGraphic, Australian Geographic as well various newspapers like The Guardian.
Initially completing a B.Sc. specialising in zoology and microbiology, I later competed a Masters of Environment, a Masters of Bioethics, as well as a Diploma of Education.
Believing people should generally focus on the issues they care about that are close to home, my recent work has included documenting the impact of the Australian bushfires, as well as the conservation and animal welfare issues that face our platypus and the Grey-headed Flying-fox.
In 2020, along with my partner Heather, I launched our first children's book called 'Life Upside Down' - a 48 page book all about Australia's wonderful Grey-headed Flying-foxes.
My hope is that the images I take and the information I shares, will help inspire people to stop, think, and treat the world more kindly.

i) the meta-communication concept of framing
ii) ethics (especially around wildlife photography)
